Logging in with a physical hardware security keys

Logging in with a physical hardware security keys

(E.g. Yubikey, etc.)

We do not currently support this method of two-factor authentication (two-step verification) because MeetInOne does not currently access your bluetooth or USB devices and are working diligently to make it available to you. In the meantime there are a few equally secure workarounds we have designed to allow you to continue using the app. Please consider using one of the following…

Method 1: Google two-factor authentication with backup codes (recommended)

The best option, in our opinion, is using the Google two-factor authentication with backup codes. The best thing about this method is that you can use it one time and then forget about it as, if you do not download or save the backup codes, they can never be used again, making this method both very secure, quick and easy.

Steps:

  1. Open MeetInOne
  2. Go to https://myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification and click on the “Backup codes” options. Do keep the codes prompt open, you will need it later on when authenticating with MeetInOne. Do not download or save the backup codes if you do not wish to use this method again in the near future.
  3. Try to add an account with MeetInOne.
  4. After entering your password, you will be prompted to authenticate with your security key. Instead click on the “Try another way” (or some variation of this) button on the bottom left and choose to use the backup codes.
  5. Enter one of the backup codes you generated in step 2 and make sure that MeetInOne adds your account
  6. Close the Backup codes prompt in your browser if you do not wish to use backup codes in the future. As long as you have not shared/distributed/saved these codes there are absolutely no security implications.

Method 2: Other two-factor authentication methods

Similar to the above method, this method involves choosing a two-step verification method (ideally temporarily) to allow logging into MeetInOne.

Steps

  1. Open MeetInOne

  2. Go to https://myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification and click on one of the following  recommended options: Google Prompts, Authenticator app or voice or text message

  3. Once this two-step verification method is set up, try to add an account with MeetInOne.

  4. After entering your password, you will be prompted to authenticate with your security key. Instead click on the “Choose different option” (or variation of this) button on the bottom left and choose to use your alternative two-step verification method.

  5. Complete two step verification.

  6. Optional: go back to https://myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification and disable the two-step verification if you do not wish to use it in the future. This ensures that your account and security are exactly the same as they were before you added to other two-step verification option.

Method 3: Temporarily disabling two-factor authentication (not recommended)

A not recommended route is to add temporarily disable two-step verification for your account. This can be done here: https://myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification. As soon as you have logged into your account on MeetInOne you can re-enabled the two-step verification method. Even though this method is still very secure since you are only disabling two-step verification for a very short time period, we recommend other options, such as Method 1, which are just as quick and even more secure.
